Compte tenu des événements météorologiques violents que nous subissons, inondations, canicules à répétition, … à moins d'être borné il n'est plus possible de nier la réalité du dérèglement du climat de la planète.
La théorie n'est pas nouvelle car le réchauffement planétaire a été matérialisé par plusieurs auteurs, puis modélisé, dès 1896, par Svante Arrhenius. Mais, c'est seulement vers 1950 que les perfectionnements des méthodes de mesure ont permis de quantifier la concentration de dioxyde de carbone 1 (CO2) dans l'atmosphère terrestre et de mettre en évidence les conséquences de son influence sur le réchauffement du climat.
Avant la création, en 1966, sous l'égide de l'Organisation météorologique mondiale (OMM) et du Programme des Nations unies pour l'environnement (PNUE), du Groupe d'experts Intergouvernemental sur l'Evolution du Climat (GIEC), l'augmentation du dioxyde de carbone dans l'atmosphère est l'objet de controverses : certains scientifiques présument que la température moyenne va sensiblement baisser, les autres, au contraire penchent pour l'augmentation des températures. C'est en 1990, que le premier rapport du GIEC indique l’existence d'un « effet de serre » dont l'activité humaine serait la cause et qui entrainera une augmentation globale des températures.
Cette constatation reçoit l’approbation d'une majorité de scientifiques. Les températures augmentent environ deux fois plus rapidement sur les continents qu'au dessus des océans, les phénomènes météorologiques extrêmes se multiplient et on constate une élévation du niveau de la mer, une acidification des océans et un impact tragique et irrémédiable sur la biodiversité.
Aujourd'hui, la communauté scientifique est très surprise que l'augmentation des températures soit beaucoup plus rapide sur l’Europe occidentale. Peut-être payons nous le fait que nous avons été, malgré les signaux d'alarmes, les premiers à développer une industrie carbonée – charbon puis pétrole.
Ce préambule, pour affirmer qu'aujourd'hui - pas demain, l'humanité doit prendre des décisions drastiques car nous sommes de plein pied dans l'Anthropocène, une ère géologique dans laquelle les sociétés humaines transforment de manière irréversible leur environnement.
Macron aime bien parler de guerre, de réarmement, et bien, c'est le moment, Emmanuel, car nous sommes face à une guerre entre deux conceptions de l'existence.
D’un côté, les « timbrés de la croissance » et du « techno-solutionnisme » 2 qui considèrent que le maintien de la croissance et de l'accumulation est une priorité absolue, et que la technologie résoudra tous les problèmes et pour qui le climat, l’environnement ... bof ! on verra après.
De l’autre, les tenants de la sobriété, pour lesquels la croissance épuise les ressources et détruit l’atmosphère et les cadres de vie et pour qui la technologie est dépassée car les désastres environnementaux sont beaucoup trop rapides et que l'urgence oblige à un changement immédiat et non progressif, sinon l'humanité courre vers le néant.
La question qui se pose alors est :
Dans quel monde voulons nous vivre ?
Cette question fondamentale en appelle une autre : la société de profit, la société capitaliste dans laquelle nous baignons actuellement est elle compatible avec une société de sobriété, respectueuse de l'environnement ?
Répondre NON à cette question, c'est être, immédiatement, catalogué d'individu rétrograde, d’extrême gauche, communiste, anarchiste, radicalisé voire « écoterroriste », et j'en passe ….
Comme si c'était une tare.
Heureusement, tous nos contemporains ne sont pas dangereux et nombre d'entre eux pensent que le capitalisme est incompatible avec une société de sobriété.
Ce qu'ils désirent c'est :
de conserver un environnement sain où l'on protège la diversité et où l'on n'extermine pas les oiseaux, les papillons, la flore et la faune …. de préserver la biodiversité,
des technologies éthiques au service des humains garantissant la protection de la vie privée et qui ne détruisent pas l'environnement. Pas d'IA, de biotechnologies ou de robotiques sans garde-fous,
une réduction des inégalités garantissant l'égalité des chances par l'accès à l'éducation, à la santé et la culture,
le respect absolu des libertés fondamentales - d'expression, de conscience, de genre, … - et la protection des minorités.
Il ne me semble pas que ces aspirations soient démesurées ou celles de fanatiques ou d'éternels insatisfaits. Au contraire, la majorité de nos contemporains aspire à un futur où ils vivent en harmonie avec la nature et où les droits fondamentaux sont respectés. Une société centrée sur l'humain, pas sur le profit, et dans laquelle les progrès technologiques sont éthiques et transparents et qui assure un avenir meilleur aux générations futures.
Ces jeunes générations chez qui l'expression « Ecoanxiété » est la plus répandue, ils ne sont, d'ailleurs, pas les seuls, en 2023, le Conseil économique, social et environnemental (CESE) a dans un rapport rendu public que huit Français sur dix expriment un sentiment fort d’anxiété face au dérèglement climatique et à ses dramatiques conséquences.
Alors, que propose t'on aujourd'hui à ses personnes qui s'inquiètent pour leur avenir et celui de leurs enfants et leurs petits enfants
On leur propose un système capitaliste mondialisé beaucoup plus sauvage que le capitalisme industriel et qui impose une concurrence personnelle exacerbée, fondée sur une économie de marché globalisée, privilégiant la croissance à tout prix et qui ignore la question environnementale qui serait une « arnaque » 3, sauf bien sûr à des fins marketing ou de greenwashing.
On leur propose d'oublier la nature, qui de toute façon sera bouleversée pour aller coloniser Venus 4, de construire des usines interplanétaires 5 dans un environnement totalement artificiel et d'exploiter les minerais qui composent les astéroïdes, la Lune ... dans le seul but de faire perdurer la croissance pour le seul profit de quelques multi-milliardaires.
On leur propose le transhumanisme - pour qui ? - l'intelligence artificielle, une sorte d'esclavage qui détruira jusqu'à leur personnalité.
On ne peut pas accepter cet enfer.
Mais, s'il est impératif, pour la pérennité de l'humanité de rompre avec le consumérisme effréné et de tourner le dos à la société d'accumulation, néanmoins, il est indispensable d'aboutir à une solution qui ne conduirait pas à une impasse.
Arrêtons de croire aux populismes de tous bords et sortons de la servitude volontaire.

WHAT KIND OF WORLD DO WE WANT TO LIVE IN?
Given the violent weather events we are experiencing, floods, repeated heat waves, ... unless one is stubborn, it is no longer possible to deny the reality of the planet's climate disruption.
The theory is not new, as global warming has been documented by several authors, and then modeled, as early as 1896, by Svante Arrhenius. However, it was only around 1950 that improvements in measurement methods made it possible to quantify the concentration of carbon dioxide.6 (CO2) in the Earth's atmosphere and to highlight the consequences of its influence on climate warming.
Before its creation in 1966, under the auspices of theThe World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are all concerned about the increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide: some scientists believe the average temperature will drop significantly, while others predict a rise. It was in 1990 that the IPCC's first report identified the existence of a "greenhouse effect," attributed to human activity, which would lead to a global increase in temperatures.
This finding is supported by a majority of scientists. Temperatures are rising approximately twice as fast over land as over the oceans, extreme weather events are becoming more frequent, and we are witnessing a rise in sea level, ocean acidification, and a tragic and irreversible impact on biodiversity.
Today, the scientific community is very surprised that the temperature increase is much faster in Western Europe. Perhaps we are paying the price for having been, despite the warning signs, the first to develop a carbon-based industry – coal and then oil.
This preamble, to affirm today - not tomorrow Humanity must make drastic decisions because we are fully immersed in the Anthropocene, a geological era in which human societies are irreversibly transforming their environment.
Macron likes to talk about war, about rearmament, and well, now is the time, Emmanuel, because we are facing a war between two conceptions of existence.
On one side, the "growth fanatics" and "techno-solutionists" 7 who consider maintaining growth and accumulation to be an absolute priority, and that technology will solve all problems, and for whom climate, the environment... meh! we'll see later.
On the other hand, there are the proponents of sobriety, for whom growth depletes resources and destroys the atmosphere and living environments, and for whom technology is outdated because environmental disasters are far too rapid and the urgency requires immediate and not gradual change, otherwise humanity is rushing towards oblivion.
The question that then arises is :
What kind of world do we want to live in ?
This fundamental question leads to another : is the profit-driven society, the capitalist society in which we currently live, compatible with a society of sobriety, respectful of the environment?
Answering NO to this question immediately results in being labeled a retrograde individual, an extreme leftist, a communist, an anarchist, a radicalized individual, or even an "eco-terrorist," and so on ….
As if it were a flaw.
Fortunately, not all of our contemporaries are dangerous, and many of thembelieve that capitalism is incompatible with a society of sobriety.
What they want is :
to maintain a healthy environment where diversity is protected and birds, butterflies, flora and fauna are not exterminated… to preserve biodiversity,
Ethical technologies serving humanity that guarantee the protection of privacy and do not destroy the environment. No AI, biotechnology, or robotics without safeguards.
a reduction of inequalities guaranteeing equal opportunities through access to education, health and culture,
absolute respect for fundamental freedoms - of expression, conscience, gender, ... - and the protection of minorities.
It does not seem to me that these aspirations are excessive, nor those of fanatics or eternally dissatisfied people.On the contrary, the majority of our contemporaries aspire to a future where they live in harmony with nature and where fundamental rights are respected. A society centered on humanity, not profit, in which technological progress is ethical and transparent, and which ensures a better future for generations to come.
These younger generations, among whom the expression "Eco-anxiety" is most prevalent, are not alone; in 2023, the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) published a report stating that Eight out of ten French people express a strong feeling of anxiety about climate change and its dramatic consequences.
So, what do we offer today to those who are worried about their future and that of their children and grand children?
They are offered a globalized capitalist system that is far more savage than industrial capitalism and that imposes exacerbated personal competition, based on a globalized market economy, prioritizing growth at all costs and ignoring the environmental question, which is considered a "scam". 8 except of course for marketing or greenwashing purposes.
They are being asked to forget about nature, which will be disrupted anyway, in order to gocolonize Venus9to build interplanetary factories10in a totally artificial environment and to exploit the minerals that make up asteroids, the Moon ... for the sole purpose of perpetuating growth for the sole profit of a few multi-billionaires.
They are being offered transhumanism - for whom ? - artificial intelligence, a kind of slavery that will destroy even their personality.
We cannot accept this hell.
But, while it is imperative for the survival of humanity to break with rampant consumerism and turn our backs on the accumulation society, it is nevertheless essential to arrive at a solution that would not lead to a dead end.
Let's stop believing in populism of all kinds and break free from voluntary servitude.
